Day Four

Hakone

Today we decided to take a day trip to Hakone, just a few hours south of Tokyo. I was hoping to visit for a view of Mt Fuji.

Transportation was the most complex of the entire trip — metro from Shibuya to Shinagawa, Shinkansen train to Odawara station, train to Hakone-Yumoto, Hakone Tozan railway to Gora, funicular railway up the mountain to the Hakone Ropeway and finally a Hakone sightseeing cruise across Lake Ashinoko to Hakone-machi. And that was just on the way there!

After a short walk around Hakone-machi we were pretty hungry and went to a small restaurant called Akakura for lunch. I ordered the Akaseiro-zen, a large steamed vegetable, pork and chicken bowl.

We checked out a small hiking trail before walking to the Detached Palace Garden for some nice views of the lake.

There wasn't much else to do in Hakone so we took a bus back to Hakone-yumoto to walk around before heading back to Tokyo.

Back in Tokyo we stopped by Tsukiji to grab sushi. On the way back we saw this lovely building being projected in. They were preparing for a concert that was set to take place the next day.
